Dec 23rd Milestone Review Documentation

Research Progress

Across the three Media Station project visions, research has taken situation appropriate directions. The Creative Town vision has implemented a prototype environment as a basis for the research cycle which will run in semester one and two 2005. History's Purchase has undertaken a schools-based research focus in order to investigate the potential affects of rich immersive environments. Media Tools is investigating a prototype environment with a specific view to educational possibilities of collaboration and presence in immersive environments.

Changes to Research

None of the projects are planning major changes in the original research plan although development of prototypes and second stage research is likely to be limited by funding - particularly in the case of the Media Tools vision where a protoype is being explored but further development of tools is a financial consideration.

Team Members Contribution

Across the three visions, a core group of active team members is evident. A few issues are arising for the Media Tools team as a result of partner organisational change. This needs to be clarified for the next stage.

Education

At this milestone stage, none of the projects have engaged students in the research process.

A number of potential papers and publications are in the pipeline for each project. A suggestion is a collection of papers produced by ACID as well as the usual conference and publication outlets.

Next Steps

The next stage for each vision is the implementation of research events in order to collect data.

March 31st Milestone Review Documentation

Research Progress

NB: individual vision documentation being collated

The three projects are entering the developmental stage. The Creative Town vision has implemented a research cycle after the primary use of the prototype environment with undergraduate students during semester one. A full immersive environment has been commisioned to further explore the Media Station parameters. History's Purchase has produced a body of theory pertinent to educational exploitation of rich immersive environments. Media Tools has a protype environment ready to investigate with a student group.

Changes to Research

None of the projects are planning major changes in the original research plan although development of prototypes and second stage research is likely to be limited by funding - particularly in the case of the Media Tools vision where a protoype is being explored but further development of tools is a financial consideration.

Next Steps

The next stage for each vision is the analysis of research cycle data and further development of research events
